hilot is the ancient science and art of Filipino healing rooted in indigenous wisdom that has been passed down through generations.
hilot was practiced on both my matrilineal and patrilineal sides of my pamilya. i come from a lineage of very powerful healers on both sides, & i was called by my ancestors (not just blood ancestors) to bring these practices back to my lineage, after it had been lost due to colonization & assimilation. through my many years of chronic pain & chronic illness, through desperation, in search of any kind of relief, I found my way back.
in honor of & in gratitude to them & this potent ancestral medicine, I intend to share this ancient wisdom with my community.
hilot embodies a holistic approach to health and wellness, including all parts of the person–body, mind and spirit. we work with the following to promote the well-being of the people:

what is a
hilot binabaylan
i am a life-long student of hilot and the babaylan. babaylan in ancient times, were our spiritual leaders. they are called by various names among our indigenous peoples: babaylan, balian, baylan, mumbaki, patutunong, mandadawak, and others...
if we use a non-filipino word to describe the various healers/spiritual practitioners, a “shaman” would be the closest.
a babaylan is someone who has the ability to travel to the spirit world or non-ordinary states of reality in order to mediate with the spirits. they are given gifts of healing, foretelling, and insight. they may be a ritualist, a diviner, and may also have knowledge of healing therapies such as hilot.
